Nigeria Bans "I Better Pass My Neighbour"

The federal government yesterday banned  the importation of one cylinder generators, popularly called "I Better Pass My Neighbour".

The authorities say " we banned it because it pollutes the environment and our lungs. That is why we banned it." The North East zonal Comptroller of the Nigeria Custom Service said.

The brand of power generators is cheap and uses one spark plug. It also runs on regular petrol.

This means in simple chemistry that it emits less carbon monoxide than the expensive heavy duty plants that even all government offices use. Those ones run on diesel and thus pollute the air more.

"I better pass my neighbour" earns that name because it is cheap. Most people in Nigeria are poor.

Power is very infrequent so small businesses such as barbers shops, small restaurants, etc, use it.

Most part of Nigeria is on the average 32' Celsius as all trees are cut down in the cities .So people use them to power fans.
