MTN Acting CEO To Take Nigeria Fine As a Priority

Phuthuma Nhleko Acting MTN Group CEO is to take the $5.2 Billion Nigeria Communications Commission, NCC fine as a priority, and work out a way of reducing it.

Speaking with SABC, the company spokesperson Chris Maroleng says the board gave Nhleko the brief during a meeting.

“The primary aspect of the discussions related to Nhleko's perception of how he can steer MTN out of this situation and more importantly what key priorities would be in the 6 months that he had indicated would be his tenure as executive chairperson. Dabengwa has pointed out that he was doing this in the interest of the shareholders and the MTN company at large given the difficult situation that MTN had found itself in. It was also the view of the board to confirm Nhleko as executive chairperson in light of the extensive experience that he has at MTN.”
