It is a short-medium range commercial trunk liner that can claim indigenous intellectual property. Its all-economy class layout entails 168 seats, and the hybrid class layout 156 seats.
The basic version is designed to cover a range of 4,075 km, while the enhanced version can stretch to 5,555 km. Such designs may satisfy the operating demands for different routes. Its economic life is designed to be 90,000 flying hours/30 calendar years.

As the biggest Aviation market, China relies on Boeing and Air Bus, hence the need for an homegrown Company that can take on the task of helping preserve the multi-billion dollars industry in China.

COMAC says they have received orders of 517 Aircraft from 21 customers, but they are mostly from China.

With this news, the likes of Boeing and Air Bus should be worried, or that’s what we should believe.

"If you ask, are we worried about competitors in the next 10 years? The answer is no, not really. In 20 years, it's almost a certainty," Leahy told CNBC at the Singapore Airshow.
"Remember, Airbus was started in 1970, it took 20 years before we were just being taken seriously, I think that would be the same with any manufacturer, no matter the country behind that," he added.

GE, Hamilton Sunstrand, Honeywell Aerospace and Rockwell Collins are its suppliers. And Bombardier serves as its technical Partner.

The Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. ("Comac") is a Chinese state-owned manufacturer established on 11 May 2008 in ShanghaiChina. The company has a registered capital of RMB 19 billion (US$2.7 billion as of May 2008)

It was formed with the approval of the State Council and jointly invested by State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) of the State Council, Shanghai Guo Sheng (Group) Co., Ltd., Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), Aluminum Corporation of China Limited (CHALCO), Baosteel Group Corporation, and Sinochem Corporation. The Company has its headquartered in Shanghai. Mr. Jin Zhuanglong serves as Chairman and Secretary of the Party Committee of COMAC, and Mr. He Dongfeng as President.

COMAC functions as the main vehicle in implementing large passenger aircraft programs in China. It is also mandated with the overall planning of developing trunk liner and regional jet programs and realizing the industrialization of civil aircraft in China. COMAC is engaged in the research, manufacture and flight tests of civil aircraft and related products, as well as marketing, servicing, leasing and operations of civil aircraft.

The question is reliability and safety. For passenger aircraft,it take time to build that sort of trust.
