Promises And Buhari's Growing Pains

Nigeria's president, Mohammadu Buhari, who wants to be oil minister, just made yet another misstep yesterday.

In Vienna,OPEC's headquarters, Nigeria's voice was not heard even as it is Africa's largest producer. He did not attend.

Venezuela that has a dictator president, sent a minister." $80 per barrel would be Ideal" the man wished.

As we write, The American domestic output reached a week high of 8million barrels per day. The total American inventory now stands at 476 million barrels. The biggest in 80 years. This is a country that was the world's biggest buyer of crude.

Had Mr Buhari attended the meeting, he would not have changed anything .We gathered that Saudi Arabia was opposed to the meeting in the first places.

But the president would at least have learnt how tough the situation is. He would have put a stop to internal rifts in his party.
He would also have gained a sense of priority.

His officials talk often about diversifying the economy and yet they do nothing about it. During his campaign In Enugu, he promised to "revive" the coal industry at a time people are rooting for clean energy.

Mr Buhari  did not attend a special meeting on Boko Haram while he was in New York.

He also did not attend OPEC's "technical" meeting at these murky times.

All of this tell of one thing: The government has no grasp of management. Beyond talks.
