Nigeria's Appetite For A Shrunken "National Cake"

Even as Nigeria needs serious and immediate economic surgery, some of the people elected to make laws for the country are obsessed by how large their slice of the" national cake' will be.

On Saturday, October 17, a member of The Nigeria House of Representatives, Mr Henry Nwawuba (PDP) Oweri told his people" I can assure Imo people of their fare share of the National Cake"

Politicians in Nigeria are yet to believe that the notion of a national cake is the reason why,Nigeria, a nation once measured by how far it can go ,is now dreaded for its failures. As a state and as a collection of citizens.

Oil,the cake that is so addictive to Nigeria, that has engendered laziness and inefficiency, is gone. The cake is still around. But it is also getting stale because there are many other bakers. There are also too many flavours.

Even Nigeria's president does not know this.
And so, a victory at an election tribunal means money for those that elected him .

Rep.Nwawuba's promise to his people shows a collective madness: that government is about taking money rather helping the citizens make it.

It is the reason former governors with corruption cases hanging over them are killing to be ministers.

It is the reason the Nigeria Armed Forces is not independent as loyalty is not to Nigeria but to the president.
Addiction to a national cake is the reason Nigeria has ,so far, lost to Boko Haram.

The reason is simple, when a group comes together to share as opposed to coming together to work, there is always mistrust. Some members of the  group are greedier than others.Haysas will demand more because their"son" is president,Yorubas want more because their son "made" the president.Ibos will feel cheated.
Those from whose ovens the cake comes will get angry.

National cake is the reason Nigeria has never known peace. And very poor. It does not matter who is president.
