These measures include:

1. An Energy audit report The aim of this is to evaluate, Identify and recommend a better power management system. Develop an economic basis that is suitable for your home. This will give you an insight as to what consumes your energy. For instance, do need more than 1 horse power Air conditioning in your room? Do you need all your lights to come on at the same time?. Your home energy audit report will answer all of these questions, and solutions proffered.

2. Install automatic sensor system that monitor for instance your room temperature and know when to switch on the Air conditioning. This measure can cut down the energy consumption of your heavy appliances like Air conditioning and refrigerator by half or more, save you money as they consume most of your energy needs.

3. Install occupancy sensor so the lights comes on automatically when someone walks in, and goes off when its not utilize.

4.Install energy efficient bulbs that consumes less wattage. Energy efficient bulbs cuts down your lighting needs by as much as 200% or more. And if you get a good inductive or LED light, it can last you for about 3 years before another change.

5. Install proximity sensor for your perimeter lighting so that when people approach your home they come on automatically, and goes off when they don't sense any movement around your home.

6. If you are Rich enough, you can get an  electrical engineering company to design a " Power distribution Control Panel" fitted with Softstarter. What this does is to lower the starting current of your appliances and schedule those appliances at different time interval with the help of a timer. If you have noticed, it takes more energy to start your Air conditioning, refrigerator and pumping machine. The Softstarter significantly drops that power by half or more. This will help prolong the life span of your generator.

7. According to EnergyStar.gov, replacing windows with doublegrazing will save you about 24 percent of air conditioning bills.

This list is not exhaustive as we will continuously add to them. And if you have something to add to this, please feel free to comment.
